Parallel Painting

For Recent Homebuyers

Just closed on your Southern California home? Your cabinets are next.

Don't live with the previous owner's finish. Refinishing doesn't mean replacing — it means your cabinets get a factory-grade Italian 2K polyurethane finish on a clear timeline, usually about two weeks from start to finish.

Your cabinets have more life than you think

Most of what made the kitchen look like theirs is surface-level. The cabinet boxes, the layout, the built-in storage — that's yours now. What you're looking at is a layer of finish: stain, paint, or lacquer that someone else chose in a year that wasn't yours. That's all we change.

Replacement runs 3-5x the cost of refinishing — and for most homes in Temecula Valley and Coachella Valley, the underlying box construction is solid. You'd be paying to rip out good frames just to get a surface you like. Refinishing gets you the same visual result — color, sheen, texture — for a fraction of replacement cost, with a 5-year written warranty behind it.

New homebuyers have a narrow window where the momentum is right: before furniture locks things in, before you've "gotten used to it," before the initial renovation budget dries up. That window usually closes around 90 days post-close. We see it constantly. The homeowners who act in the first three months end up with exactly the kitchen they wanted. The ones who wait tend to live with what was there.

Why Italian 2K polyurethane outperforms standard cabinet paint

Two-component catalyzed coatings cross-link chemically during cure — the result is a shell that's harder, more scratch-resistant, and more UV-stable than anything brush- or roller-applied. It's the same finish technology used on high-end European cabinetry and commercial furniture. Once it cures, it does not chip, peel, or yellow under normal residential use.

Our 8-Step Cabinet Refinishing Process

Most cabinet refinishing projects take about two weeks from start to finish. Smaller or simpler kitchens may finish closer to 10 days; larger kitchens, grain filling, repairs, cabinet interior painting, specialty finishes, added color changes, scheduling constraints, or extra curing time can extend the timeline.

1

Consultation & cabinet photos

You send cabinet photos and goals so Tyler can confirm whether refinishing is a fit before an in-home visit.

2

In-home assessment with Tyler and written quote

Tyler counts doors and drawer fronts, checks cabinet condition, and gives a written quote before work is scheduled.

3

Mask, protect, and plan containment

Floors, counters, appliances, and adjacent rooms are protected while the containment plan is set for your kitchen layout.

4

Remove and label doors, drawer fronts, and hardware

Every removable piece is taken off, labeled, and tracked so doors, drawer fronts, hinges, and pulls return correctly.

5

Clean, degloss, sand, repair, and grain-fill where needed

Surfaces are cleaned, deglossed, sanded, repaired, and grain-filled where the wood and finish condition call for it.

6

HEPA-vacuumed prep and sealed negative-pressure containment

HEPA-vacuumed prep controls sanding dust, then sealed negative-pressure containment controls the finishing stage.

7

Spray Italian 2K polyurethane on doors, drawer fronts, and frames

Doors and drawer fronts are sprayed in a controlled setup while frames receive the same Italian 2K polyurethane system on site.

8

Cure, reinstall, align hardware, final walkthrough, and warranty

After cure time, Tyler reinstalls and aligns each piece, walks the finished kitchen with you, and provides the written warranty.

Questions from new homebuyers

We just moved in — how soon can you start?

We can typically schedule a free in-home estimate within 2-3 days of your call. For recent closings we try to get on the calendar fast — most homebuyers find the first 90 days post-move the ideal window before furniture and decor go in. Project start dates depend on our current schedule, but we'll give you a clear timeline on the estimate visit.

Can we live in the house while you refinish?

Yes. We work from your kitchen outward, remove cabinet doors and drawer fronts, and use sealed negative-pressure containment so overspray and dust stay controlled. You keep full access to the kitchen structure throughout — it's open shelving for roughly 10 days while doors cure in our off-site spray setup. Most families cook and eat normally. Tyler coordinates on-site days around your household schedule.

What if we want to paint the walls at the same time?

Good timing. We recommend sequencing wall painting after cabinet reinstall so colors can be matched precisely. Tyler can walk through a paint-color consult at the same estimate appointment. Cabinet refinishing and interior painting are separate scopes with separate quotes — but we can coordinate staging to minimize disruption.

We have a snowbird schedule — do you work on absentee homes?

Yes, especially in our Coachella Valley market — Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, La Quinta. We routinely coordinate with absentee owners: you share a property contact or provide key access, we send progress photos at each stage, and you get a final walk-through video before we close out. All documentation, warranty, and invoice handling is done remotely. Many clients never need to be on-site.

How is refinishing different from painting?

Standard cabinet painting uses brush-applied latex or alkyd — the same materials used on walls. It shows lap marks, chips within months, and yellows with UV exposure. Refinishing the way we do it involves full surface prep (deglossing, sanding, priming) and Italian 2K polyurethane applied by HVLP spray. The 2K coating chemically cross-links during cure into a factory-hard, non-yellowing shell — the same technology used on high-end European cabinetry. It's a permanent finish, not a paint job.
